Federated Wi-Fi

The Federated Wi-Fi specification sets out a harmonized authentication framework for public Wi-Fi. Its aim is to describe how Wi-Fi can be architected so that it can deliver a seamless, safe and secure connectivity experience for customers.

Adding public connectivity to existing and new Wi-Fi deployments brings the opportunity to improve connection reliability and connection speeds for customers inside buildings.

The Federated Wi-Fi specification has been drafted by the FedWiFi forum. This is a new technical forum, with inputs taken from experts across all the UK mobile operators and a selection of neutral host providers. This first version of the specification has been published to give it wider visibility to industry stakeholders.
