UK Government to Test Emergency Alerts System on Mobiles on Sunday 7 September

On Sunday 7 September 2025 at 15:00, the UK Government will conduct a nationwide test of its Emergency Alerts system on mobile phones. This system is designed to warn the public about nearby threats to life, such as severe weather or other emergencies.
What to Expect
During the test, compatible mobile phones and tablets across the UK will:
- Emit a loud, siren-like sound
- Vibrate
- Display a test message on the screen
The alert will clearly state that it is a test, and no action is required. The sound and vibration will occur even if your device is set to silent.
Why It Matters
Emergency Alerts are a critical public safety tool, enabling the government and emergency services to quickly reach people during life-threatening situations. Since the first national test in April 2023, the system has been used five times, including during major storms.
To stay safe, it is recommended to keep alerts enabled. If you wish to opt out, guidance is available at gov.uk/alerts
