New Map Your Mobile Service from Ofcom Launches

The way we use our mobile devices has changed dramatically in the last two decades. We've moved far beyond traditional voice calls and text messaging, now regularly streaming video, accessing cloud services, taking part in video calls, and using apps and AI tools in every part of our lives. This has naturally led to a significant rise in data consumption and placed much greater performance demands on mobile networks.

This evolution in how mobile services are used has prompted Ofcom to update its coverage checker service, called Map Your Mobile which can be found here.

The United Kingdom's Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) – EE, Virgin Media O2, and VodafoneThree are investing heavily in enhancing their networks, to bring faster speeds and broader coverage to communities right across the UK.

Delivering these networks remains challenging, and so Government and industry must continue working closely to overcome the barriers. This will include regulatory changes, strategic public investment in the most difficult locations, and execution of the commitments in the Infrastructure and Industrial strategies. Building world-class mobile infrastructure is a core underpinning for all the UK’s ambitions for digital inclusion and prosperity for all.

Notes to Editors

  • Commitments made under Ofcom’s existing thresholds, such as those within the collaborative Shared Rural Network initiative, remain unaffected by these updates.
