Mobile UK welcomes the Rt Hon Ian Murray MP as the new Minister for Telecoms

Mobile UK welcomes the appointment of the Rt Hon Ian Murray MP as the new Minister for Telecoms. Having previously held ministerial responsibility across digital and telecoms portfolios, his return brings invaluable experience and understanding of the sector at a critical juncture. The mobile industry is eager to partner closely with the Minister and his Department to drive forward the UK’s connectivity ambitions.

To unlock the full potential of next-generation networks, mobile connectivity must be treated as an urgent national priority. Delivering on this requires immediate, coordinated action—starting with decisive progress on the Mobile Market Review to establish a pro-investment regulatory framework within his Department's remit, alongside working closely with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) to implement essential planning reforms that remove persistent barriers to infrastructure rollout.

Mobile infrastructure is the engine of modern economic growth. By taking decisive action now to support network investment and modernise planning, government and industry can ensure robust digital connectivity reaches every community, directly enabling the Government to deliver on its ambition of driving growth for every postcode.
