In responding to the National Infrastructure Commission’s National Infrastructure Assessment Congestion, Carbon, Capacity: Priorities for National Infrastructure Mobile UK has warned that the current regulatory and planning framework and the multitude of actors involved in the delivery of mobile networks is not adequate for the effective delivery of mobile infrastructure.

Mobile UK, in its response, has made several suggestions as to how the UK could reform its policy and regulatory environment while also calling on the Government to better join up the multiple layers of Government and bodies which have roles to play in the delivery of mobile networks.

Hamish MacLeod, Director of Mobile UK, said:

“Mobile operators’ ability to deliver more coverage and capacity is dependent on many factors and stakeholders across Government. It is critical that, if we are to prepare the UK for 5G connectivity, a more joined up approach is brought forward and reform to the planning and regulatory framework is expedited.

“Mobile operators are investing heavily in their networks and are keen to work with Government, the National Infrastructure Commission and other stakeholders to ensure that mobile connectivity is delivered fast and effectively.”
