#MeetTheChampions – Iona McPhee, Staffordshire County Council

Our latest #MeetTheChampions series features Iona McPhee, Digital Infrastructure Co–ordinator at Staffordshire County Council. In this video, Iona explains the benefits of improving digital infrastructure in the county and the impact of the council’s digital strategy.

The rural nature of Staffordshire means there are areas in the county with limited access to mobile and broadband coverage. Iona states that improving coverage reduces the number of isolated communities, by allowing residents better access to services like medical, education, home management and job opportunities.

Access to these resources is important and as is up with future demand for mobile coverage. Staffordshire County Council aims to work with mobile network operators in order to provide reliable connectivity, and to make the area a desirable place to live for all.

Iona explains how Staffordshire County Council’s digital infrastructure strategy has had a positive impact on the area. She goes on to say how the programme helped Sinai Park House, a Grade II listed historic house,  get connected. They are now working with them on how they can utilise the technology for education and accessibility.

“Improving these experiences will attract more people and investment into our county while showcasing the benefits and true utilisation of that connectivity”.
