As part of Mobile UK’s ongoing Building Mobile Britain campaign the mobile operators’ trade association met with the LGA, ADEPT and local government representatives to discuss mobile connectivity and how to answer questions about ensuring the UK is best placed to continue the mobile rollout and to prepare for 5G.

Topics of discussion included the planning regime, local government funding, rural networks and public asset provision to mobile operators. The meeting was held under the Chatham House rule which allowed an open debate an opportunity for both industry and local government to raise key topics of interest.

Hamish MacLeod, Director at Mobile UK, said:

“It is important that as the industry continues to build out its networks, it does so in partnership with local government. Mobile networks are a national asset that is delivered locally which means that local authorities are the gatekeepers to mobile deployment. This roundtable provided a great opportunity to discuss the barriers to mobile rollout and to seek solutions that will not ensure the continued growth in coverage and capacity of the UK’s mobile connectivity.”
