Electronic Communications Code Important Piece of the Puzzle to Enable Mobile Deployment

Mobile networks are part of the nation’s critical infrastructure, and the forthcoming implementation of the new Electronic Communications Code will be a big step in facilitating network operators in deploying the equipment that underpins the UK’s digital connectivity.

Mobile communication, once considered a luxury, is today seen by most as essential; nearly 94% of the adult population in the UK own a mobile phone and it is estimated that the combined value of 4G and 5G based mobile connectivity could add £18.5 billion to the economy in less than a decade. It is therefore important that, to ensure the efficient roll-out of mobile infrastructure, it is cost effective for the operators to invest and to upgrade and share apparatus.

Hamish MacLeod, Director of Mobile UK, said:

"The Electronic Communications Code is an important piece of the puzzle alongside further planning reform that will help mobile operators to overcome the challenges they face with expanding their networks, while also developing innovative services for customers. Good mobile connectivity is no longer an optional extra. It is essential infrastructure as core to modern economic activity as broadband, electricity and other essential services."
