DCMS launches new Digital Connectivity Portal for local authorities and communications network providers

Mobile UK welcomes the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport’s new Digital Connectivity Portal. The portal is a new online resource for local authorities and communications network providers with guidance on how to encourage investment in fibre and mobile networks at the local level.

The new Portal provides practical guidance on areas such as: digital infrastructure strategies, enabling the use of local authority assets for network deployment, access agreements, considerations for the local planning authority, and street works. The Portal will be updated periodically as new laws, regulations and examples of best practice develop.

Gareth Elliott, Head of Policy and Communications at Mobile UK said:

“Local authorities have a clear role to play in the deployment of mobile infrastructure, and we are pleased that the DCMS has recognised this and, through the new digital connectivity portal, is providing a tool to make it easier to access essential guidance materials. Ultimately, and in collaboration with the industry, tools like this will build upon and enhance the necessary skills and information needed to ensure the UK is a world leader in digital connectivity.”
