National Infrastructure Assessment 2 Mirrors Mobile UK’s Call for Digital Champions To Assist 5G Deployment

The National Infrastructure Commission launched its second National Infrastructure Assessment on Wednesday 18th October, and in doing so, mirrored calls by Mobile UK for the Government to establish and provide funding for digital champions across the country.

The Assessment went further in highlighting the urgent need for recent changes in planning rules covering mobile masts to take full effect, with a focus on ensuring a standardised application of the rules across the UK.

Mobile connectivity was also acknowledged for its critical role in the energy, water and transport sectors and called on the Government to better plan for the telecommunications needs of these vital industries. This focuses minds on the important role that mobile plays in society, not simply as infrastructure in its own right but as an enabler underpinning wider society.

Mobile UK supports the National Infrastructure Commission’s recommendations around planning and digital champions, and in particular, its call on the Government to ensure the right conditions are in place to accelerate the market led deployment of 5G.
